Worthy runner-up: Manchester’s Mental Health and Social Care Trust gains national praise in award ceremony
Manchester’s Mental Health and Social Care Trust received national praise at an awards ceremony last week for its work in treating alcohol disorders – being named ahead of 58 other projects.
The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) named the Trust as runner-up in its Shared Learning Awards during their annual conference on May 16.
The Trust is being lauded as an inspiration to similar care organisations for its work in delivering treatment to people with alcohol disorders – implementing guidelines set out by NICE.
“Improving care for people with alcohol misuse issues is particularly important considering the high prevalence in Manchester,” said Chief Pharmacist Petra Brown, who co-ordinated the application on behalf of the Trust.
“It is fantastic to be recognised for this work and I just want to say congratulations to all the teams involved.”
The teams involved were the Community Alcohol Team, Public Health Development Service, the Brian Hore Unit, Dual Diagnosis Team, Dr Chris Daly and the Medicines Management Team, all of whom Mr Brown praised for their enthusiasm.
A special thanks was also given to Dr Chris Daly for his efforts in delivering the presentation to the awarding body.
NICE was set up in 1999 by the last Labour government to give guidance to NHS services on how to implement treatment and care, and prevent ill health.
The annual Shared Learning Awards celebrate organisations that use this guidance to benefit patients, their families, employees or the wider public it order and is used as a platform for organisations to learn from each other.
Val Moore, Implementation Programme Director at NICE, said the Trust had worked hard to improve treatment and care for people afflicted with alcohol problems.
“Nearly 60 projects were entered into this year’s Shared Learning Awards so Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust should be very proud to be a runner-up,” she added. “I congratulate them on their achievement.”
