A “dangerous” psychiatric patient who absconded from a London clinic has been found after a nationwide police manhunt.

Reece Burton, 25, was attending the North London Clinic in Edmonton, Enfield on permitted ground leave when he absconded on 20 November 2015.

Mentally ill patients are being sent for treatment in hospitals that are vast distances from their homes.

Nearly 500 are at least 30 miles away, another 1,600 are treated outside their local area and in one case a father faces a six-hour 240-mile round trip to visit his daughter.
The new figures highlight the plight of patients left isolated and scared because there are no facilities in their area.

Police are appealing for information to trace a man who has absconded from a psychiatric clinic in Edmonton on the morning of Friday, 20 November.

Reece Burton, 25, was last seen at 11:20hrs at the North London Clinic, Edmonton, Enfield where he was on permitted ground leave. He is being detained under the Mental Health Act after being convicted of grievous bodily harm with intent.

Nearly one in four areas of England has unacceptably high rates of early deaths among people with mental health problems, a report suggests.
The warning by independent experts funded by the Cabinet Office came after they looked at deaths before 75 in 2011-12 in more than 200 local areas.
