CCTV image of assault suspect – north Manchester

A business man suffered head injuries after he was smashed over the head with a bottle in Manchester city centre.

At about 1.30am on 23 August 2012, police were called to Sandinista Cantina Bar on Old Bank Street to reports of an assault.

A 33-year-old man was out with work colleagues when he was approached by a man.

They started to talk and the victim bought him a drink. He went outside for a cigarette and returned a few minutes later, he walked back to the bar and without warning smashed a glass bottle over the victim’s head and ran off.

A CCTV image of the suspected attacker, who is described as white man, about 5ft 8in tall, in his mid 20s, of small to medium build with black slick back hair has been released by detectives.

Detective Constable Paul Wilde from north Manchester CID, said: “The victim suffered serious injuries after being hit over the head with a bottle. This was an unprovoked attack on a man enjoying a quiet drink with colleagues.

“The victim recalls from the brief conversation he had with the offender that he was from Birmingham and was studying in Manchester.

“We have released a good quality CCTV still of the man suspected of this assault and I would urge people to look very closely at the image.

“If you witnessed the assault or recognise him please call the police.”
