Suicide rates for middle-aged men in mental health care up 73%, Man Uni study reveals

More than a thousand men in the care of mental health services are committing suicide every year, a report by The University of Manchester reveals.

Suicides amongst male metal health patients have increased by 29% since 2006 – up to 1,239 a year – according to the report published by the university’s National Confidential Inquiry into Suicide and Homicide by People with Mental Illness (NCISH) today.

Mental health patients sent hundreds of miles for beds as out of area placements rise 23 per cent

Mental health services spent millions of pounds sending patients hundreds of miles for beds last year as use of ‘out of area’ hospitals increased by almost a quarter, research by Community Care and BBC News has found.

‘Deliberately humiliating’: Manchester users’ group hits out at mental health trust

A mental health advocacy group has accused Manchester’s mental health trust of ‘harassing’ its members in an attempt to ‘cut off an avenue for mental health patients and campaigners’.

Manchester Users Network (MUN) say Manchester Mental Health & Social Care Trust’s ‘increasingly hostile communications’ have led to ‘anxiety and distress’ amongst members, who are all users of mental health services.
