Care should be priority for mental health hospitals

The Care Quality Commission has called on mental health services to focus more on the dignity and individual needs of detained and non-detained patients in mental health hospitals.

It follows CQC inspections which found evidence of poor care at some mental health hospitals with some patients unaware of their care plan and not feeling involved in decisions about their treatment. Others were unaware of how they would be assessed as being ready for discharge. The findings are outlined in the commission’s Annual Mental Health Act Report.
