Book launch: NHS SOS How the NHS was Betrayed – and how we can save it.
Greater Manchester Keep Our NHS Public has organised a book launch and tea party on 12 July at 5.30pm at the Working Class Movement Library in Salford.
Professor Raymond Tallis, co-editor with Dr Jacky Davis, of the new book NHS SOS How the NHS was Betrayed – and how we can save it will outline how successive governments have undermined this much cherished British institution, and then open a discussion on how the public can campaign to take back the service.
Professor Tallis trained as a doctor at Oxford University and at St Thomas’ in London before going on to become Professor of Geriatric Medicine at the University of Manchester and a consultant physician in Health Care of the Elderly in Salford. He retired from medicine in 2006 to become a full-time writer, though he remained Visiting Professor at St George’s Hospital Medical School, University of London until 2008. Raymond is also a philosopher, poet and writer. His website is http://www.raymondtallis.com.
In the book he says “we must not allow this jewel in the crown of the welfare state to be destroyed by those whose rapacious self-interest has rendered them unable to comprehend any nation of the public good or public service”.
