An ex-care worker has been jailed for more than four years for having sexual relations with a mental health patient.
Robert Roberts, 60, of Hathersage Way, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, admitted eight offences of sexual activity with a patient in his care.
The abuse took place at a unit in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, in 2014.
Jailing him for four years and four months at Nottingham Crown Court, Recorder David Herbert QC said: “This was not a two-way relationship.”
Two charges of rape against Mr Roberts were previously dropped.
The court heard Roberts put pressure on his victim at the Millbrook Mental Health Unit not to tell anyone as he had a wife who was suffering from cancer.
A statement from the victim, read in court, said she did not trust people and suffered nightmares and flashbacks. “I feel the most vulnerable that I have ever felt in my life,” she said.
Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, which runs the unit, said it had co-operated fully during the case and viewed the result as a “positive outcome for our patients”.
