Mental Health Issues In Need Of Political Representation !

Mental Health Issues In Need Of Political Representation !

“Welfare suicides don’t exist. Suicide is a mental health issue.” That line, by the former Labour official Luke Bozier, pretty much sums up the standard rightwing response to the website Calum’s List. According to its founders, the aim of Calum’s List is “to list the number of deaths where welfare reform has alleged to have had some culpability, and to make the best effort possible to work towards reducing this death toll.” Bozier’s Twitter comments were a gloss on blogposts by The Spectator’s Isabel Hardman and the Telegraph’s Brendan O’Neill.

A DANCING STAR

Several of us are tentatively seeking to take forward further exploration of how we behave towards mental ill health in our meetings and how we can perhaps offer support to each other in a more creative and confident way than we are currently able to.

A DANCING STAR

People’s lives can be devastated by poor mental health. They may be in touch with mental health services and they may not. In either case peoples experiences show us that acknowledging one’s spiritual  self can be a force for change/good, aiding recovery from debilitating and milder distress. Here a user of Oldham services and a […]

Are You Using The Correct Fish Oils ?

Are You Using The Correct Fish Oils ?

We hear about Omega 3 all the time and yet many people still don’t know why it’s so important for their physical and mental health or whether or not they are getting enough in their regular diet.

The fact is, most people in the West are not getting enough Omega 3 and at the same time are consuming far too much Omega 6. These two important nutrients are essential for our health and as the body cannot produce them they have to be sourced from our diet.

Most of us have no problem getting the required amount of Omega 6 as it is present in vegetable oils, processed foods, dairy products and meat. However, the same cannot be said for Omega 3.

Fish oil and Stress & Eicosapentaenoic Acid [EPA] !

Fish oil and Stress & Eicosapentaenoic Acid [EPA] !

It is well known that stress can potentially have a negative effect on both physical and mental health, but recent research conducted by the University of Valencia in Spain indicates that high-grade ethyl-epa fish oil could possibly prevent some of the adverse effects associated with chronic or prolonged stress. Ethyl-epa is a concentrated and purified form of the Omega 3 essential fatty acid Eicosapentaenoic acid or EPA. Researchers found that ethyl-epa helps transport the stress hormone cortisol through the blood brain barrier. This indicates that ethyl-epa fish oil could help cortisol to return to normal levels, which is important when we consider that during periods of prolonged stress, cortisol levels can remain very high and pose a significant risk to health.
