Sunday 14 Th May, 2016:
Today it is with the deepest regrets that Manchester Users Network were informed of the death of James Atkinson our joint secretary here at Manchester Users Network.
A member of James’s family informed MUN that James was discovered dead at his home in Wythenshawe yesterday Saturday 14 Th May, 2016.
MUN vice Chair Alan Hartman on hearing the sad news said: he was in shock at this his friend’s death and as news of James death reached his ma y friends within the Manchester mental health community many expressed their sadness.
James had become through his own illness a tireless campaigner for those who also suffer from mental health although a very private man, he was very vocal on the subject of people who often suffer alone. There were not many meetings that James would not be at, even though he suffered severely from his own battles with the illness.
A MUN spokesperson said “Today our thoughts are very much with James family and friends and everyone who knew James. He will be very sadly and sorely missed by all involved with the work of Manchester Users Network, he was very active in MUN and helped many other people who otherwise would have had no one supporting them and fighting their corner”.
