Mental health problems for call centre staff a bigger and bigger issue, says Manchester union representative

The mental health problems for call centre employees is becoming a ‘bigger and bigger issue’, a senior Manchester union representative has warned.

Linda Craven from the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers (Usdaw) told MM of the increasing pressures on call centre employees, based on her own experiences.

North Manchester General Hospital shuts ward because of ‘staffing pressures’

Bosses at Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust say they have temporarily closed Cedar Ward at North Manchester General Hospital and have now moved the beds across town to Wythenshawe Hospital.

They say the decision was taken to address ‘staffing pressures’ on the ward, which treats elderly men for conditions including dementia.

The ward’s closure means the trust’s Park House facility at North Manchester has lost 20 beds.

Lock-Out Privatisation at Manchester Royal Infirmary on Saturday May 30th, from 12pm

On Saturday 30th May, citizens of Manchester are uniting to show their support for the NHS. Padlocks, covered in reasons why individuals love the NHS, will be secured to the gates of MRI from 12 – 1pm. The event ‘Locking-out Privatisation’ is a celebration of everything people love about the NHS, with music, speeches and free food for all who attend.
