Hospital admissions for self-harm almost double the national average

Hospital admissions for self-harm almost double the national average

People are almost twice as likely to be admitted to hospital due to self-harm in Greater Manchester.
New data analysed by the M.E.N. shows that the number of admissions was highest at Tameside Hospital and Wigan Royal Infirmary.
Experts say the figures mirror the region’s problem of self-harm and high suicide rate.

“The writing has been on the wall for the Trust almost since the day it was set up”.

What I want to focus on at this moment is the importance of listening to users of services – particularly at a time of change. Over the years Macc has had strong involvement in mental health work with the public and voluntary sector (all led by my former colleague John Butler who left us only a few weeks ago following funding reductions).

MANCHESTER USERS NETWORK INFORMATION MEETING Wednesday 14th October 2015 Time, 1.30pm. Important Information, rights & news for patients!
As part of the discussion and for a later date to be proposed; that employees of the Trust and other employees or other mental health organisations, should have a “Conscience Clause” in their contract. The advantage therein, to diminish and expose unethical decisions, such as discharging ill patients, ill treatment, stepping down patients for financial reasons and diminishing the fear of sacking employees, because of whistle blowing etc.

North Manchester General Hospital shuts ward because of ‘staffing pressures’

Bosses at Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust say they have temporarily closed Cedar Ward at North Manchester General Hospital and have now moved the beds across town to Wythenshawe Hospital.

They say the decision was taken to address ‘staffing pressures’ on the ward, which treats elderly men for conditions including dementia.

The ward’s closure means the trust’s Park House facility at North Manchester has lost 20 beds.
