On Saturday 30th May, citizens of Manchester are uniting to show their support for the NHS. Padlocks, covered in reasons why individuals love the NHS, will be secured to the gates of MRI from 12 – 1pm. The event ‘Locking-out Privatisation’ is a celebration of everything people love about the NHS, with music, speeches and free food for all who attend.
The Conservative Party in Manchester has a very limited membership. We find ourselves running the affairs of four constituencies, with only a handful of those members actually willing to devote their time to the 2015 campaign in four parliamentary constituencies, in addition to running 27 local government candidates for Manchester City Council and two candidates running for Salford City Council.
Our chairman, Nick Savage, runs the master control panel between his full-time duties training as a medical doctor, and preparing for his end-of-year exams. Peter Schofield, the backbone of Manchester Conservatives, who has been working in the party for over fifty years, complains than Nick sends too many emails, but what else can he do when the powers-that-be in the higher echelons of the party keep asking Nick for updates? I imagine Nick arriving home late at night, sitting in his chair and petting his white cat, like Max Von Sydow as Ernst Blofeld in the James Bond film Thunderball, saying, “Number 2, what have you got to report from Withington Constituency?”

CHIC Seminar ‘Apps for Mental Health’
The next Connected Health Innovation Centre Seminar on “Apps for Mental Health” will take place on 16th April 2015.
John Ainsworth, Deputy Director of the Centre for Health Infomatics and the Health e-Research Centre, will present ‘Adventures in Connected Health: ClinTouch, CareLoop, Actissist and beyond.’ John’s research focuses on areas such as applying information technology to improve healthcare, harnessing computing technology to enable novel clincial research and the development of software as a diagnostic/ therapeutic medical device.
More pupils have mental health issues, say school staff
More children have mental health issues than two years ago, a survey of school teachers suggests.
More than half of 850 staff surveyed by the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) agreed more pupils had developed problems.
On Monday, the ATL’s annual conference will debate a call for more support for vulnerable pupils in schools.
General secretary Dr Mary Bousted blamed “poverty, poor housing, unemployment and financial insecurity”.
School staff have had to “plug the gaps in social care as best they can”, said Dr Bousted.

The message is clear and members of the public, Unison members and members of MUN turned out on Valentines Day asking those who Love Manchester to tell Manchester City Councillors not to implement cuts to Manchester Mental Health Services already cut to the marrow as Manchester City Councillor Paul Andrews (Bagley) recently said: “These cuts are already down to the marrow.” MUN’s Chair Paul Reed in response said: ” This mean further killer cuts will mean the loss of lives and that’s something Manchester User’s Network is not prepared to allow, if this Council implements these killer cuts MUN would seek legal action against Manchester City Council.”

Manchester celebrities Shaun Ryder, Terry Christian, Rowetta and Claire Mooney are to lead hundreds of protesters in a rally against ‘appalling’ coalition cuts that have affected the city.
The Mancunian icons will lead crowds in what they are calling a ‘smart rally’— an emulation of the pro democracy demonstrations that took place in Hong Kong back in September 2014.
